Places to Eat and October Events in Greenville

Need a night on the town or just a place to go eat? Did you realize the downtown Greenville is full of spectacular restaurants? Here is a short list.

  • Adams Bistro at 221 Pelham Road. Friendly service and impressive, tasty cuisine.
  • American Grocery Restaurant at 732 S. Main St. Features seasonal menu highlighting what is local and fresh during the year. In the historic West End District.
  • Arizona’s Simpsonville at 3952 Grandview Dr. A steak house serving USDA choice grain-fed beef from the mid-west. Beef is hand cut in-house, potatoes are genuine Idaho baked and they even make their own chicken stock for soups. Fresh made menu with great atmosphere. There is also a location on Woodruff Road.
  • Barley’s Taproom and Pizzeria at 25 West Washington St. Looking for a place to get that special beer that no one else serves, it might be here! Over 250 American Craft beers. Seventy-two on tap.

Coming up this October is an event for everyone called “Fall for Greenville, a taste of our town.” Dates and times are Friday, October 11 5-11pm, Saturday, October 12 11am-9pm and Sunday, October 13 Noon-7pm. A promise of tempting tastes, mouthwatering aromas as you stroll Main st. Forty of Greenville’s restaurants will be showcase about 200 items from their menus. Something for everyone. Here’s your chance to sample and find your favorites.

Also coming in October, Boo at the Zoo. October 18, 19, 20, 25, 26 and 27th. Non-scary, safe trick or treat event for kids 12 and under. Although adults can show up in costumes also.
  • Hollywild Animal Park offers college students a Take a break month for October. Show your college ID at the gate to get a discount on admission. October 5th is photography Day. October 26th is Owl day with special activities.
  • Beakers and Broomsticks Halloween Event. Science skills and creepy thrills during EdVenture’s annual celebration of Halloween. Five nights in October.
  • Owl Prowl on October 25th. Learn about the life of an owl. Reasons why owls are associated with Halloween. End the evening with a campfire and marshmallows and create a spooky craft.

Welcome Elementary gets Headphones

Keller Williams Realty volunteers from my office brought 750 pairs of headphones to all the students at Welcome Elementary in Greenville County. These headphones will allow the students to use their tablets for reading and educational activities without disturbing other students.

Need Medical Attention?

In case you didn’t know it, there are several options in the Greenville area for medical care. Here are a few of them.

  • Greenville Veterans Clinic on Grove Rd near Greenville Memorial Hospital. A $3.8 million center on 3.2 acres. This facility is 78,000 sq. ft which is larger than the old one. Upgrades include new physical therapy room and equipment, mental health waiting room, and updated exam rooms. Currently seeing about 18,000 veterans now, the number is expected to grow. There is lots of parking.

  • Located close to the new Veterans clinic is the Ronald McDonald house at 706 Grove Rd. In case you didn’t know the Ronald McDonald house creates, finds and supports programs that improve the well being and health of all children. Contact information is (864) 235-0506. Help support this worthy cause by dropping your spare change in the change collector the next time you visit McDonald’s in your area.

  • Shriners Hospitals for Children located at 950 West Faris Rd in Greenville. Delivering high quality care for children with orthopedic and neuromusculoskeletal disorders and diseases. They provide both in-patient and out-patient servicing. They employ world-class physicians. Contact them at (864) 271-3444. 
  • St. Francis Health System. St. Francis offers two locations in Greenville. A downtown location (864) 255-1000 and an eastside location (864) 675-4000. These are both full service hospitals. Downtown they have 245 beds and all private rooms. Eastside offers 93 beds and a Neonatal Care Unit. 
  • Greenville Memorial Hospital which is also a teaching hospital is located at 701 Grove Rd (864) 455-7000. They are also a full service hospital with service groups ranging from cancer to heart and vascular to surgery to women’s health and urgent care. They have a comprehensive website available for your use with a scheduling app for urgent care, emergency room and physician appointments. This network is large and satellite facilities are located in many surrounding towns.
